After Israel Prime Minister Narendra Modi is now in Germany for the G20 summit. While you might be wondering why the man travels so much, here’s a low-down on what the G20 Summit actually is.

>> The G20 Summit was founded in 1999 to help developing countries be represented in the global economy. Interestingly when it was first started, only the finance ministers of countries and the central bank governor would attend the summit, but now, it is different story. Since 1999 there have been 18 G20 summits between finance ministers and central bank governors.

>> The first meeting between the heads took place was because of a global recession due to the Lehman Brothers crash in 2008. Since then, leader have met every year, except for the time when there was a global economy crisis – between 2009-2010. Till date there have been 11 meetings between heads of state.

>> Interestingly, most of the work between countries – treaties and such -- have occurred on the sidelines and in informal meetings.

>> For a country to take part in the G20 summit, it has to be a member. So far Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States of America, The European Union. This year leaders of Guinea, Netherlands, Norway, Philippines,Senegal, Singapore, Spain and Vietnam will also be present.

>> This year, the G20 forum will be held on 7-8the July at Hamburg, Germany amidst large protests. The protests have been reported to be carried out by left-wing organizations in Germany who are of the opinion that international organizations meet with only a ‘capitalist’ agenda and do not find solutions to a number of more pressing problems

>> This year’s summit is themed Shaping an Inter-connected World

>> This year’s meeting promises to have a number of important discussions occurin gon the sidelines. Reports by The Sun state that Donal Trump will meet Vladamir Puttin, whom he has already snubbed for ‘destabilizing’ behavior. The US President will also meet with Theresa May, who will, most likely, challenge him for his decision to pull out of the Paris Agreement.

>> Other talks will include the current North Korea missile testing incident and how the world leaders need to take a stronger stand against terrorist attacks.

>> The Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has so far met the leaders of the BRICS — Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

>> He is likely to hold bilateral talks with other world leaders present as well.
