What could be better than sharing your love of reading and stories with like-minded others? Book clubs have been around for a while now. Great at creating a receptive and engaging community, book clubs work well in the virtual world as well. In many cases, book clubs helped people battle isolation during the pandemic and reiterated the importance of spaces to hold conversations about art and literature. We’ve rounded up a list of five online book clubs to suit varied preferences.

Reese’s picks

Every month, Hollywood actor Reese Witherspoon picks a book to recommend to her millions of followers. Reese founded her book club to highlight stories about women, so it isn’t surprising that each story has a woman at the centre of its plot.  The book club is a space for readers to discuss these thoughtfully curated stories. There is no membership fee and they’ve recently launched an app with exclusive content. If you are someone who likes to be inspired by books, you might want to be a part of this book club.

Endless threads

The Reddit book club has over 110,000 members. Every month, by popular vote, one or two books are selected for reading. The book club has multiple discussion threads, so you can swift through different opinions and share personal inferences. You can also access older threads to discuss previous books selected by the book club. With members across the globe, it is easy to chalk up an international reading list.
