'12 Years A Slave', 'American Hustle' lead Golden Globe 2014 nomination

Epic historical drama '12 Years A Slave' and con-artist caper 'American Hustle' are leading the 71st annual Golden Globe Awards nominations with seven nods each.

The Steve McQueen-helmed '12 Years a Slave' notched nominations for Best Motion, Best Director, Best Actor in a Motion Picture, drama for Chiwetel Ejiofor, Best Screenplay, Best Score and supporting actor and actress nods for Michael Fassbender and Lupita Nyong'o .



'12 Years A Slave'


Ejiofor will have a chance to go home with two awards, having also nominated for an acting award for his turn in the TV mini-series, 'Dancing on the Edge.' 'American Hustle', meanwhile, notched Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, Best Screenplay, Best Director and acting nods for Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence.

Rounding out the Best Motion Picture, Drama category are Sandra Bullock-starer 'Gravity,' and 'Captain Phillips starring Tom Hanks with four nods each. 'Philomenia,' and 'Rush' are also fighting it out in this category. For the best actress in a motion picture trophy, Bullock is competing with Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine), Judi Dench (Philomena), Emma Thompson (Saving Mr Banks) and Kate Winslet (Labor Day).



'Gravity'

The films nominated in the Best Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical category besides 'American Hustle' are 'Her,' 'Inside Llewyin Davis,' 'Nebraska' and 'The Wolf of Wall Street.' Another feature film garnering multiple nominations is 'Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom,' which earned nominations for song and original score and best actor in a drama for Idris Elba.

Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep have been nominated for their roles in 'August: Osage County' in the best supporting actress and best actress in a musical category respectively. Christian Bale for 'American Hustle' and Leonardo DiCaprio for 'The Wolf of Wall Street' have bagged a nod each in the best actor motion picture musical or comedy category.

TV newcomers 'House of Cards,' 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine,' 'Orange is the New Black' and 'Orphan Black' were among the series earning nominations. 'Breaking Bad' has been nominated for the Best TV Series, Drama award and is up against 'Downton Abbey,' 'The Good Wife,' 'Masters of Sex' and 'House of Cards.' The biggest shocker was the snub of 'Homeland's' Claire Danes from the Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series, Drama category - an award she won the past two years.

Filling out that category instead are Robin Wright ('House of Cards') Julianna Margulies ('The Good Wife'), Kerry Washington, ('Scandal') and Tatiana Maslany ('Orphan Black'), Taylor Schilling ('Orange Is the New Black.') 'Breaking Bad's' Bryan Cranston leads the pack for the Best Actor in a TV series, drama award with Liev Schreiber ('Ray Donovan'), Michael Sheen ('Masters of Sex'), Kevin Spacey ('House of Cards'), James Spader ('The Blacklist') rounding out the category.

The nominees for best television comedy series are 'The Big Bang Theory,' 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine,' 'Girls,' 'Modern Family' and 'Parks and Recreation.' The nominees for Best Actor, TV Series Comedy include Jason Bateman ('Arrested Development'), Don Cheadle ('House of Lies'), Michael J Fox ('The Michael J Fox Show'), Jim Parsons,('The Big Bang Theory'), and Andy Samberg ('Brooklyn Nine-Nine').

For Best Actress in a TV Series, Comedy, the nominees are Zooey Deschanel ('New Girl'), Edie Falco ('Nurse Jackie'), Lena Dunham ('Girls') Julia Louis Dreyfus, ('Veep') and Amy Poehler ('Parks and Recreation'). Filmmaker Woody Allen will receive the organization's Cecile B DeMille Award. The 71st Annual Golden Globes Awards will be presented on January 12 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.u00a0
