The apex body of these schools called for the change in timings at the eleventh hour yesterday, a move that is likely to inconvenience students and parents.

Several school principals were, however, clueless about the development till late evening, putting in doubt about the impact of the stir. The demands include government grants to educational institutes, waiving off restrictions on teacher recruitment, and providing property tax concessions to institutes. The organisation says these demands have been pending since long and the concerned authorities are paying no heed to their plight.

R P Joshi, general secretary of State Private Educational Institute Organisation, said, “We are not causing trouble to students or even teachers. The only thing is all schools will commence two hours late.”

When asked why the school routine was being disturbed for the protest, Joshi said, “Our demands are pending with the government since several years. We hope to get the attention of government officials and ministers by this move.”

Heads from around 150 educational institutes are also going to meet the District Collector Vikas Deshmukh, so that he reminds the state government about the long pending demands.

Meanwhile, Abhinav School’s principal Ujwala Chaphekar said, “I am not aware about any such development. Incidentally, October board exams are ongoing at our school. So it will anyhow be starting late today.” u00a0
