Catch Ranjit unplugged
9 pm onwards: NYC music scenester Ranjit Arapurakal, is back from touring South Asia, to entertain listeners this evening. Dance with Sarabhais
One of the country’s most well known danseuse duo will set the stage on fire at a three-day residency this month end. Called the August Dance Residency, you know it’s not just the month we are referring to when it’s Mrinalini Sarabhai and daughter Mallika in question. The residency begins with a screening of Yadavan Chandran’s documentary, Mrinalini Sarabhai: The artist and her art, followed by a conversation with the filmmaker, Mallika Sarabhai and Kathak exponent Gauri Sharma Tripathi. Day 2 continues with Mallika’s applauded work, Sita’s Daughters, a one-woman show representing several Sitas who refuse to surrender to the command of weak and distrustful men. Concluding the three-day choreography homage is a workshop on the innovative use of stylized movements in theatre and the intelligent use of spoken words in dance, making it a must-attend for practitioners of both genres. Raise a toast to failure

Run for fun
Aug 15, 5 am: Calling all Forrest Gumps for a 12-hour Mumbai Ultra run organised by Shivaji Park Marathon Club. With no registration fees (although registration is a must), this is a run for the fun of it. Step into a 1950s reel
Aug 16, 5 and 8 pm: Director Nadira Zaheer Babbar’s love for cinema of the ’50s inspired her to pen SALAAM.. 1950s KE NAAM. The musical has it all — Kabeelawalas (tribesmen), love triangles, family ties, sacrifice, shrewd and conniving villains, loyal munims, lovers separated by fate and convenient coincidences.
