Victim had affair with sister of one of the attackers, say police
The Sangvi police arrested two people on charges of assaulting a 22-year-old man Kirteshkumar Tikle (22) on Thursday night for allegedly having an affair with a girl.
On August 27, MiD DAY had reported that doctors in Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) Hospital had come to blows with the relatives of an injured youth for creating a ruckus in the casualty ward.
Tikle, a resident of Kalewadi, was allegedly beaten up by four persons.
The Sangvi police arrested Sumit Shashikant Ambre (23) and Suraj Vasudev Kushwah (20), both also from Kalewadi in connection with the assault.
Police Sub-Inspector D P Jadhav of Sangvi police station said: "Tikle had an affair with Ambre's sister. When Ambre got to know about it, he decided to thrash Tikle with the help of three other friends."
"On Thursday night, Ambre and Kushwah along with two other friends, caught hold of Tikle while he was standing with his father. The four assaulted him with sharp weapons," PSI Jadhav added.
Tikle was then brought to the YCM hospital. Moments after he was admitted to the casualty ward, about
40 people claiming to be his relatives and friends had entered the ward and refused to move out.
No action was taken against the unruly friends and relatives.
Asked about the unruly relatives of Tikle, PSI Jadhav said: "No doctor from YCM Hospital has filed a complaint with us. We have observed that grief-stricken relatives are not in a mood to listen to reason. The issue needs to be resolved through understanding."
