According to cops, the accused Ashu Singh, who is a resident of Versova, had met the victim around a year ago in his college, where he is studying to graduate. The victim was a junior college student then. Now a Std XI passout, she lives in Lokhandwala, the police said.

Friendship blossomed between the two and they often met up to spend time together. In her complaint, the victim alleged that Singh would visit her residence when her parents were away. On one such visit, he raped her after threatening her.

After the girl’s mother found out about the incident, the family registered a complaint. The police said that Singh, a B Com student, was booked and arrested under section 376 of the IPC for rape. The victim, meanwhile, underwent a medical test, the report of which is awaited.

“Although the victim has told us that Singh had raped her once, we are trying to find out if he had raped her earlier as well,” said Inspector Baburao Mukhedkar of Oshiwara police station.
