Patil also announced that an additional 500 policemen would be given to the city this year. These announcements were made in the winter session of the Assembly in Nagpur.u00a0

MLC Mohan Joshi, who raised a starred question in the House in this regard, said that the Pune police had sent a proposal in 2008 for inclusion of at least 25 fringe villages such as Narhe, Haweli and Dhayari. The government had sought a report in this regard from the district collector, but the process was stalled and no decision was taken.

Joshi told MID DAY over phone from Nagpur that people living in nearby villages face difficulty in getting police assistance in case of emergency. "Whenever people approach u00a0the city police in the wake of any untoward incident, they are told to approach the rural police stations as the villages don't come under their jurisdiction.

u00a0Moreover, rural police stations are located at far-flung places. An aggrieved man from these fringe villages dials the emergency -- 100 -- only to be routed to the city police control room that asks them to the call up the rural police control room," Joshi said.u00a0

Replying to Joshi's question, Patil told the House that the city police commissioner u00a0would be asked to send the report to the home ministry in two months.u00a0
