Three reptiles of the rare Red Sand Boa breed, used for black magic and to make medicines, were also recovered

Delhi police seized three snakes of a rare breed, Red Sand Boa, and arrested three people in this regard, from Fatehpur Beri area of south Delhi on Tuesday. Rs 4,000 in cash was also recovered from their possession.
The snakes were to be used for black magic and medication, which is prohibited under the Wildlife Protection Act.

Tantrik tales
According to the police, the accused have been identified as Suniel (28), Devender Singh (36) and Yadram (50). "On November 8, police received information that three persons involved in trafficking of rare snakes will come to Sanjay Colony to sell them to a 'tantrik'. Accordingly, a trap was laid and we apprehended them," said a senior police officer.

DCP (south) Chhaya Sharma said, "There is a huge demand of Red Sand Boa snakes in the black market. The trio came in contact with a Delhi-based snake charmer, collaborated with him to catch these snakes, and then sell them to 'tantriks', who use them for black magic and other purposes," she said.
