4,148 requests for photocopy, just 20 for re-evaluation

Bombarded with demands from students and parents, Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) has this year introduced an option of re-evaluation of answer sheets for both SSC and HSC exams.

4,148 requests for photocopy, just 20 for re-evaluation

But it seems that the allegations of improper assessment have fizzled out. Till yesterday evening, a total of 4,148 HSC students had asked for photocopies of answer sheets of one or more subjects across Pune division of MSBSHSE, but of these only 20 had further applied for re-evaluation.

“The nominal number of students applying for re-evaluation shows how competently the state board had declared HSC result,” said Pushpalata Pawar, secretary of MSBSHSE’s Pune division. u00a0On May 30, after declaration of online results of HSC, many students along with their parents had gathered at the Pune divisional board office (in pic) alleging that the paper assessment had not been done properly.u00a0

“As many were in doubt, the number of students applying for photocopies of answer sheets has crossed four thousand. u00a0But after receiving the copies, many have realised that the fault was on their side and not in the assessment. That’s why only 20 students have felt the need to apply for re-evaluation,” said another board official on the condition of anonymity.

When contacted, a previously agitating parent, on condition of anonymity, told MiD DAY, “From photocopies of two HSC papers which we had demanded, it became clear that my son did not attempt certain questions and that is the only reason he scored poorly. It may be exam phobia. But at least all our doubts were cleared.”

To avoid any malpractices in the newly-underway re-evaluation process the state board has set a procedure. u00a0“After getting the photocopy of an answer sheet, if a student feels there is need for re-assessment then he has to approach his or her junior college teacher.u00a0

After getting consent from the subject teacher and a letter from the college principal, the student can fill up the re-evaluation form,” informed Sarjerao Jadhav, chairperson of MSBSHSE. However as the summer vacations are still on, the state board has appealed all junior college principals to make sure that all subject teachers are available to students who want to apply for re-evaluation.

“Two students have applied for re-evaluation from our college so far. We have provided them all the required support. I have called the concerned subject teachers and they also promptly reassessed the papers,” said Chandrakant Raval, principal of Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce (BMCC).
Meanwhile, the last date to apply for photocopy of HSC answer sheets is June 14. So the number of students applying for photocopy and re-evaluation may rise further.

What you pay
The state board has started providing photocopies of answer sheets to students under Right To Information (RTI) Act since last year. But after getting the duplicates some students had claimed that there was scope for reassessment. But till this year there was no option of re-evaluation in board exams. Now, the board has fixed charges of Rs 400 for a photocopy of one paper and another Rs 300 for re-evaluation. u00a0
