On Tuesday, the residents of Gokhale Road, in Dadar west had to put up with low-pressure water supply, while more than 47,000 litres of water went waste, as a pipeline burst during drilling work by Reliance Jio Infocomm. Water flowed out of the six-inch diameter pipeline, during water supply hour, from 7 pm to 10 pm.

Officials from Reliance present on the spot refused to comment, however, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has said that the cost of repair will be recovered from them. “While we still have to extend permission for 4G in the city, we had issued permission to the company to lay optic fibre. However, we will recover the repair cost as well as penalty from the company, as this is not the first incident of utility damage,” said Sharadchandra Ughade, assistant municipal commissioner of the G-north ward.

However, according to a senior official at BMC, another reason for the mishap was the unavailability of any geopolitical mapping of utilities. Despite no information, they gave permission to the company to lay the optic fibre.

Meanwhile, civic officials at the site claim that the repair work is going on war footing basis and will be completed soon. “We should be able to start regular supply in the area by Wednesday evening,” an official said.
