520 athletes to represent India at Special Olympics

A 520-member delegation consisting of participants from 21 states will leave for the inaugural edition of the Special Olympics Asia Pacific Regional Games to be held in Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia between December 1-7.

And six athletes from the city who are a part of the contingent — Raunaq Sawarkar, Sahil Baride, Kiara Nazareth (all swimming), Vikas Yadav, Shubham Kardile (both cricket) and Pratik Ghadge (basketball) — are looking forward to winning medals Down Under.


Vikas is the most excited of the lot and is keen to return with laurels. “I am looking forward to travellling by flight for the first time in my life. I will give my best and hope that our team wins a gold medal in Australia,” said Vikas, a student of the Jai Vakeel Special School in Sewri.
