Karthik was studying in the second standard in Adepete Government primary School in Nelamangala, and according to what the school staff told the police, the victim and other children had seen the body of Usha, the school cook, who had hanged herself on Sunday as a result of a domestic feud. The school authorities said that he had climbed onto a bench, hooked up his belt to the grill and wrapped the other end around his neck, but tragically he slipped and ended up hanging himself. Students who witnessed the incident raised the alarm and he was immediately rushed to a private hospital from where he was shifted to Nelamangala government hospital for treatment where he succumbed.

Goramma, a teacher who saw Karthik hanging, collapsed as a result of a heart attack and was rushed to a hospital where she is now recuperating.

The shattered parents Parimala and Subramanya alleged that the school authorities had kept them in the dark after the incident for over five hours. "Though the incident happened at around 11.30 am, the school management did not inform us till 4 pm," Karthik's mother Parimala said.

Senior police officials along with officials from the education department rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.Based on the complaint by the parents, the Nelamangala police have taken up a case of un-natural death and are investigating.
