A fatal accident on Wednesday morning at the Mumbai-Goa Highway has left eight-year-old Jeevika Kadam an orphan. The incident occurred around 7 am on the Kharegaon-Kalwa stretch of the highway.

Jeevika Kadam recuperates at DY Patil Hospital

Jeevika is currently undergoing treatment at Dr DY Patil Hospital in Nerul. A complaint has been registered at the Wadkhal police station, Pen in Raigad.

Assistant Sub-Inspector M T Patil said, “The girl’s father was driving the car when it collided with a truck. While her mother died on the spot, the girl’s father sustained multiple fractures. Fortunately, the girl didn’t suffer any grievous injuries.” Ravindra breathed his last on his way to the hospital.

The accident occurred while Ravindra (35), Reshmi (30) and Jeevika Kadam were returning home after visiting their native place in Sawantwadi.

“Our hearts sank as soon as the police informed us about the accident. We are looking after the girl and are trying our best to console her,” said Jeevika’s uncle.

Medical staff at the Dr DY Patil Hospital said Jeevika had been admitted to the hospital in a semi-conscious state and they were treating her.

“The girl has suffered some brain and chest injuries. We would be shifting her to the paediatric ward shortly for further treatment,” a doctor said.
