The Bhayander police got a breakthrough in a rape case when they were successful in nabbing the accused yesterday.
The man, identified as Abdul Shaikh (23), a labourer, had raped his neighbour’s nine-year-old daughter in Bhayander on November 6 and was on the run since then.
“A resident of Uttan, Bhayander (West) approached us claiming that his neighbour had raped his daughter,” said API Ranjit Sawant, Bhayander police station.

According to the police, the minor was admitted in a local hospital. The medical reports of the girl clearly stated the occurrence of rape. The report also confirmed bite marks on her chest and private parts.
The girl’s mother told the police that the incident took place when she and the accused’s wife had gone to the BMC office to collect the girl’s birth certificate. In the meantime, the accused lured the victim to his house and raped her.
When the mother returned, she found the girl crying in pain. The woman, trying to check for injuries, removed the girl’s clothes and found teeth impressions on her body. On probing a little, the girl told her about Shaikh, who was already absconding.
The police had been trying to trace Shaikh through his mobile phone but to no avail. They also visited the houses of Shaikh’s relatives all over the city but he was not to be found there.
“On Thursday we learnt that Shaikh was staying in Virar at a friend’s house. He was arrested and will be presented before the Thane Court,” said a police officer yesterday.u00a0
