A cause to love

January, this year, witnessed the launch of For The Love Of (FTLO), a platform for individuals from various creative fields to come together and host programmes, events and workshops.

The idea is the brainchild of Priyanka Shringarpure, a PR professional, and Mallika Desai Thakker, owner of Bliss, a home decor store in Andheri. Their debut event, a trunk show, titled For the Love of Recycling, hopes to promote a culture of sustainability in art, design and fashion. It will showcase works by six-seven artists and designers.

There are plenty of paper products from Haathi Chaap; The Retyrement Plan’s furniture made from old tyres and recycled cloth (chindi) ropes; Yes Yes Why Not’s upcycled handpainted products; Spade’s hair accessories made from recycled materials and Eco-exist’s Holi colours, tote bags and T-shirts.

Child’s play
Also on the cards is a contest for children aged three years and above. Participants must create a product using recycled materials and submit it at the venue between 11.30 am and 7 pm, today and tomorrow. These hand-made products will be on display during the two-day trunk show. Winners will be announced post the event and stand to win a gift hamper.

Thakker tells us more, “We decided to organise a contest for children as we thought it would be the best way to involve all age groups at the event. We would like all our events to be interactive and hands-on experiences, not just for participants but also for those who attend them.” The next few events include For the Love of Food, For the Love of Design and For the Love of Games (an event designed around traditional games).
