A literary feast for readers
At the just-concluded Singapore Writers Festival, Payal Nayar and Shalaka Ranadive's A Monsoon Feast, an anthology of seven short stories with works by seven writers from Singapore and Kerala, made an impact for its varied content
The Monsoon may have left the country, but its impact seems to be around, still, in the form of new title, A Monsoon Feast, an anthology published by Monsoon Books and has commissioned by Dragonfly Productions. It was released at the Singapore Writers Festival that concluded on Sunday.
Dragonfly Productions is a Singapore-registered company, co-founded by Payal Nayar and Shalaka Ranadive. Nayar has been doing voiceovers, professionally for over eight years in India, Singapore and numerous projects for the rest of the world. Nayar is also a presenter and represents the marketing arm of an Indian lifestyle magazine in Singapore.
An actress, a presenter and a professional voiceover talent, Nayar is today the co-founder and director of Dragonfly Productions, a high end event management company in Singapore. Payal was responsible for organising a photography exhibition with a famous Irish photographer, Seamus Murphy and a book launch with a Bollywood actor, Anupam Kher.
Ranadive was a TV and theatre actress for more than 15 years (in India, UK and Singapore). She has also directed five critically acclaimed plays in Singapore. The book consists of seven short stories written by seven different writers from Singapore and Kerala, India. Included in the collection of seven short stories are the works of literary luminaries such as Verena Tay, O Thiam Chin, Suchen Christine Lim, Felix Cheong, Jaishree Misra, Anjali Menon and Shashi Tharoor.
In compiling the book, the Kerala writers were identified by Dragonfly Productions, while in Singapore, the writers were selected by Verena Tay, a known writer and editor of the book. Taking a year to complete, A Monsoon Feast is a project that received support from The National Arts Council Publishing and Translation Grant as well as Kerala Tourism and Malayala Manorama.
The title forms part of Insight India, an ongoing branding initiative developed by Dragonfly Productions to bridge the gap between Tier II cities in India and global business hubs such as Singapore through literary and cultural exchanges. The company has identified Trivandrum in Kerala, southern India, as the first city for grounding the initiative.
