Mumbai boy Armaan Gala emerged supreme in the U-18 category in the recently-concluded Weiz International open Chess Championship at Weiz (Austria)

Mumbai boy Armaan Gala emerged supreme in the U-18 category in the recently-concluded Weiz International open Chess Championship at Weiz (Austria).

A class IX student of Oberoi International, 15-year-old Armaan participated in the Group B open category of the championship along with 24 players from Austria, Germany and Hungary.


Armaan with an ELO rating of 1551, finished with a tally of 2.5 points out of five games. Gala earned a cash prize of 600 euros (R43,000) for his win.
