Dissatisfied with Rajawadi Hospital, family took him to Parel hospital, but say docs there did not conduct any tests and relied on earlier reports
One of the victims of Thursday’s accident, auto driver Naseer Hussain, approached Parel’s KEM Hospital on Saturday but was allegedly denied admission. Hussain was among the three injured when 32 year-old Chembur resident Aarti Shetty rammed her BMW, into his auto on the Sion-Panvel highway on Thursday morning.
Hussain, who was admitted to Ghatkopar’s Rajawadi Hospital along with three others suffered injuries on his head, lower back and has abrasions all over his body. Though he was discharged on Friday, his relatives say he requires further treatment.

The Rajawadi doctors told Hussain — who, relatives say, can still not stand due to the abrasions — that his medical reports were normal and they could not keep him in the trauma ward for over 24 hours. Ali Raza, Hussain’s relative, added, “The doctors said that we could take Hussain to KEM if we wanted to conduct any further tests.”
But, Sana Banu, Hussain’s wife, complains that no ambulance was provided to transport her husband to KEM. Additionally, the doctors at KEM just referred to earlier reports which said he didn’t suffer from any internal injury and said that, thus, there was no need to admit him. “They did not bother to conduct another scan of his head, which they should have done considering he is still suffering from a headache,” she added.
Hussain’s family fears that at home his wounds will be exposed to infection. The auto driver told this paper, “My head still hurts and I am not able to lie down due to the injuries on my back. I do not understand why these hospitals could not provide a bed in the general ward until I was fit to move.”
A senior doctor at Rajawadi said it is possible that Hussain is unable to move his limbs due to the abrasions. Explaining why they suggested KEM, he added that the family was asked to go there as they were refusing to take discharge. “We advised them to go to KEM if they were dissatisfied with our treatment,” he said on condition of anonymity.
Dr Trimurti Nadkarni, neurosurgeon at KEM, said, “I am unaware of the case but I am sure that the concerned surgeon would have examined the patient before denying him admission. The surgeon who examined the patient must have checked the previous reports. If there is no sign of internal injury there is no need for admission.”
He added, “We do not advise every patient to undergo CT scans as these involve harmful radiation. In case the pain increases or further problems arise, the patient is welcome to consult us and we will conduct a thorough examination.”
Meanwhile, the BMW’s driver Aarti Shetty, has been booked for causing death by negligence. Besides Hussain, two others were injured. A third succumbed to her injuries. u00a0
