World under-16 boys champion and second seeded B Adhiban clinched his second successive National B chess championship crown with a victory over his nearest challenger Mary Ann Gomes onMonday.
Adhiban, backed by the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board, faced Bengal's Mary Ann - both were overnight on 9.5 points - in an all-crucial final round battle, each needing a victory to take the trophy. The tournament was held at the historic Town Hall.

Adhiban took the title with 10.5 points, besides being richer by Rs 60,000 when he broke through Mary Ann's French defence. She conceded the game on the 26th move, and finished fourth.
Himanshu Sharma of Haryana took the second spot after sharing point with Saptarshi Roychowdhury of Railways.
