After a year on the run, duo nabbed in Rs 4.5-cr fraud case

Two former employees of Sai Service, who had been on the run for almost a year, were arrested by officials of the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) in the city on Thursday. The duo has been accused of siphoning off funds worth Rs 4.56 crore from the company’s account. The accused were identified as Ajit Satam and Bachchan Singh Bhoi.

Officials said Satam and Bhoi were on the run since last December when Prabhakar Sonavne, the director of the firm, filed an FIR against them, accusing them of fraud, at the Andheri police station. The case was transferred to the EOW because the amount embezzled was over Rs 50 lakh. Satam had been working at Sai Service’s office at Bisleri Junction on the Western Express Highway in Andheri (E) for the last several years, and was a production manager at the time when Sonavne lodged a complaint against the duo.

Officials said Satam was given the responsibility of depositing cash and cheques into the company’s account, but he breached the firm’s trust. The fraud had been on since 2007. An EOW official said, “We arrested the duo from the city on Thursday (Nov 21) and produced them in court the next day. They were remanded in police custody till November 26. We are trying to recover money, which is difficult.”u00a0
