After sodomy, theft, ex-ACP's son charged with murder

After sodomy, theft, ex-ACP's son charged with murder

Ayuresh Shinde, arrested by Nirmal Nagar police on Thursday, has a chequered past and an illustrious lineage.u00a0The son of a retired assistant commissioner of police (ACP) has been accused of murdering a 42-year-old tailor. Cops say the crime was committed in the wee hours of New Year’s Day. Ayuresh had in September allegedly stolen jewellery worth Rs 2.5 lakh from his own home. His father ACP Sudam Shinde had lodged a case against him with Nirmal Nagar police.

“While he was wanted in that theft case, he snatched mobile phones from people and sold them to collect money on which he was surviving,” inspector Balwant Deshmukh of Nirmal Nagar police station said.u00a0On January 1, the body of Jabbar Sheikh was recovered from MHADA Colony building number 3 in Nirmal Nagar. Cops registered a case of murder against unknown persons. The post-mortem report revealed that Jabbar had been killed by a hard hit on his head, effected with a paver.u00a0In the course of investigations, Nirmal Nagar police detained Ayuresh.

The crime
During interrogation the youth confessed that he had gone to the terrace of the building late at night on December 31 to have a few drinks. Jabbar was sleeping there, like every other day. Ayuresh approached him to remove money from his pocket. Jabbar woke up and a struggle began. u00a0In anger, Ayuresh picked up a paver block and hit the victim several times on the head. Two people had witnessed the incident.u00a0

Ayuresh assaulted them and threatened them of dire consequences if they disclosed the episode to anyone. Cops say fearing arrest Ayuresh was always on the move and had eventually run out of money. At the time of his apprehension, he hadn’t had food for at least two days.

“We secured the testimonies of the two witnesses and came to know that Ayuresh was hiding at a cousin’s house in Kolhapur. A team was dispatched, but the accused managed to flee. On Thursday evening, we came to know that he was in Khar (East). We arrested him from Teen Bangla in Nirmal Nagar,” inspector Deshmukh said.

Past crimes
Cops say, in 2006 Ayuresh had been accused of a sodomising a nine-year-old boy. He had been arrested at the time and released on bail. u00a0His father was senior inspector of Kandivli police station at the time.u00a0A source from Nirmal Nagar police station said, “In 2009, while Sudam Shinde was senior inspector at Kandivli, Ayuresh stole Rs 4.5 lakh from the police station’s safe.”

Sources said the youth was involved in several petty crimes, but his father always supported him and tried to refine him. But after he robbed his own home, Ayuresh’s father filed a case against him.u00a0The accused has been arrested and charged with murder. Bandra court has remanded him in police custody till January 7.u00a0
