Ahillya Harjani of CCI shocked second seed Sanika Kapale to storm into the sub junior girls' semi-finals, in the Jindal Open Greater Mumbai District Badminton Championship, at the CCI yesterday.

Harjani, who trains under former international Hufrish Nariman at the Tata Padukone Badminton Centre, CCI, rallied from the loss of the opening game for an exciting 18-21, 21-17, 21-17 win on a day of close encounters.

Harjani, winner of the under-13 title in the recently concluded Maharashtra State Level Open at Vanita Samaj, survived anxious moments against a determined Kapale. But a crucial lead in the decider helped her to stay ahead and snatch away the thrilling encounter.

Harjani enjoyed a rewarding day when she also advanced to the midget girls semi-finals following a 21-4, 21-7 win over Tanisha Lekhraj.

Third seed Radhika Dhote also endured a strong challenge and lived dangerously before prevailing over unseeded Aishwarya Tawde 21-16, 21-17 in another exciting quarter-final.

Junior boys' top seed Siddharth Shah remained on course with a convincing 21-9, 21-10 quarter-final win over formidable Pujan Shah. Joining Siddharth in the last four were Ritish Desai, Samay Shah and Siddhesh Aroskar.
