If you are planning to travel to Dubai, be prepared to travel extra kilometres at the cost of an hour and some more cash, as flights from Pune to Dubai will be diverted to Sharjah from May 1.

The reason behind the rerouting is a temporary runway closure at Dubai airport this summer. The runway at Dubai international airport is undergoing an overhaul, and the work will be carried out from May 1 to July 20.

The Pune-Dubai Air India Express flight will now be operating between Pune-Sharjah international airport during this period.

Pune Station Manager of Air India, Dhairyasheel Vandekar, said, “As soon as we came to know about the closure of the runway, we made changes on our website so that passengers do not have to face any problem.

Those who are booking the flights to Dubai after May 1 are getting the option of Sharjah as destination, too. As of now we are operating flights between Pune and Dubai three times a week.”

Since the overhaul of Pune airport gets over today, the Air India Express flights will depart at 3:15 pm from Pune airport starting May 1.
