India striker Jeje Lalpekhlua, who scored the second goal in the Blue Tigers recent win over Nepal in an international friendly, bagged the prestigious All India Football Federation (AIFF) Player of the Year award at a glitzy awards night that saw the who's who of Indian football in attendance at a city hotel yesterday. Sasmita Malik was adjudged the 2016 AIFF Women's player of the year.


India's star striker Sunil Chhetri, walked away with a special award for being the country's most prolific goal-scorer with 53 goals from 93 matches. The awards night began in interesting fashion with head coach Stephen Constantine, Chhetri, Robin Singh among others walking the ramp to a rousing reception from the audience. Costumes for the players were designed by Bollywood fashion designer Agnimitra Paul.
