"We have sacked 10 pilots who are first officers. IGP has been derecognised and its Mumbai office will be seized," a senior Air India official said.

"We have sent doctors to the houses of pilots who have reported sick and are monitoring the situation closely. No international flight operations have been affected in any way."

IGP is the union of pilots of Air India prior to its merger with Indian Airlines. The pilots have been agitating since midnight on the flag carrier's plans to provide training to Indian Airlines pilots on the Boeing-787 Dreamliner which are to be inducted.

According to Air India management sources, the action came as the airline is already under tremendous financial stress and any strike in the given situation will worsen its prospects of a turnaround.
