Ajji, the first film from Yoodlee Films, has been a festival favourite and is now the critic's choice for the weekend. After doing the rounds of international film festivals and garnering critical appreciation from the juries, Ajji has hit theatres. The film, a dark take on Red Riding Hood, is about a 65-year-old frail grandmother, who takes revenge on the man who rapes her nine-year-old granddaughter. Hailed for the stark portrayal of those who live on the fringes, and its superlative performances, Ajji is garnering praise from international and national critics.
The Hollywood Reporter has hailed the film as "one of the strongest independent films to come out of India." Top critics in India have given a unanimous thumbs up to Ajji, marking it for essential gritty viewing.Celebrities like Javed Akhtar, Manoj Bajpayee, Mini Mathur, Deepak Dobriyal and Aahana Kumra have come out in support of the film for its stark realism, strong characterisation and a taut story that keeps you on the edge till the end.
Siddharth Anand Kumar, head, Yoodlee Films, says, "Ajji is special since it's Yoodlee Films' first release. To see the overwhelming love and support it has got from critics and audiences is testimony to the promise of fearless filmmaking we propagate under our banner. It's an important story that needs to be experienced. I hope viewers watch the film in theatres." Looks like Yoodlee Films has started off on a high with Ajji.
