Almost two decades after the former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi was gunned down, a filmmaker is all set to base his next on the politician. Akashaditya Lama, whose debut project is up for release, has already completed his research on his subject. The film will most probably go on the floors next year.

Lama says, “I have wanted to make this film from a long time. When India Gandhi was shot, I was very young and as a kid I remember all the events that happened around that incident. I have researched all the major events that happened around her life the 1971 Bangladesh War or the Emergency or also the Operation Blue Star. As a political icon, she was quite impressive.”

The director also states that the producers are in the process of getting permission from the Gandhi family post, which the actual filming will start.
Lama adds, “I am looking for an ideal character to play Indira in the film.”

One may recall that a long-pending project on another Gandhi is yet to see the light of the day. Director Jag Mundhra who had long planned to direct this film passed away last year. Hollywood actress Monica Bellucci too was approached to play Sonia but she turned the film down apparently because the script was not good enough. u00a0
