Five drunk men abducted Sahara Mall employee after tiff with her; cab driver saved the day by calling the cops on time

Saturday night became a nightmare for a 24-year-old girl after five men kidnapped her, allegedly with the intent to rape. Fortunately, she was rescued by the police before anything untoward happened. Ritu Kumar (name changed), an employee at the pub 'Prison' of Sahara Mall in Gurgaon, was at the mall with two colleagues and their relatives. The accused, who wanted to celebrate the fact that one of them had bough a Scorpio car, had come to a pub in the mall.

After the pub closed, the men had a tiff with the girls, who then left for home in a private cab. As the cab crossed the Ghitorni metro station, the Scorpio, without a number plate, intercepted it. The accused then dragged Ritu into the Scorpio. When the others, I including cab driver Amit Sehrawat, tried to intervene, the accused beat them up and took their mobile phones, and the driver's wallet and car keys.

Rape on wheels
On July 4 a 21-year-old man was arrested for abducting and raping a minor in a moving vehicle. The police said the accused and two of his friends kidnapped and then gang-raped the girl on June 27. The victim was driven around in a van for nearly four hours. The victim's family alleged the accused filmed the crime and prepared an MMS. They then threatened the victim of dire consequences, if she approached the police. "They (the accused) warned her to keep her mouth shut," a family member said. After a week, the victim finally mustered courage to approach the police. On November 25 last year, a call centre employee was abducted and gang-raped in a moving car near Dhaula Kuan. The girl, who was from the North-East and worked with a call centre in Gurgaon, was dropped by her office cab near her residence around 1am. Another girl was dropped nearly 100 metres away. The victim stayed in a rented accommodation near Moti Bagh. Four men then dragged her inside their car, while her colleague, too far to see the number plate, fled in panic. The men then dropped her in the northwestern fringes of the Capital after assaulting her. The accused were arrested after a massive search involving more than 600 policemen.

Sabrina Lall speaks
Sabrina Lall, sister of Jessica Lall, said, "Unfortunately we live in a city where men are uncouth and women have to hear disgusting things. Pubs should make sure the female employees are accompanied by an armed person, while going back home. Taking small measures like these will go a long way in averting incidents like these."
