In the run up to World AIDS Day, Alliance Fran asie de Bombay has organised a programme that will feature a conference chaired by the Hijra community, and a show by The Dancing Queens
Alliance Francaise has joined the fight against HIV AIDS with music, arts, fashion and events planned throughout this week, building up to World AIDS day on December 1.

Damini project is an endeavour of Ojus Medical Institute and aims to make women self-sufficient and generate employment opportunities by providing them with training in tailoring, healthcare and they will also be trained in beautician courses.
Pallav Patankar is the Director of HIV services at Humsafar Trust and has been working for sexual minorities in India. Taking us through the events that make up the programme planned by Alliance Fran aise de Bombay, he says, "The government is taking measures, but often people are not aware and do not know where to go.
There are numerous organisations working to combat AIDS in Mumbai, where services are available via public health systems."
On Monday, a conference will discuss the misunderstood Hijra community. "This discussion will be conducted by members of the Hijra community itself," Patankar adds.
The discussion and presentation will be followed by an opening show of The Dancing Queens, an informal dance show showcases queer talent and drag culture in the city. "The show is part of building a support group to help people get over their inhibitions through entertainment while showcasing their talents."
Patankar's talk on government mechanisms for AIDS victims is scheduled for Tuesday, followed by a repeat of The Dancing Queens.
"French band Yapa, who are big in the Paris music scene, will be in the city to perform at a benefit concert at Blue Frog on December 1 as a culmination to the programme," says Victoire Guena, Cultural Coordinator of Alliance Fran aise de Bombay.
Alliance will also be distributing red ribbons and 'love condoms' throughout the week to attendees.
