Amitji has insulted north Indians by bonding with Raj Thackeray, says Abu Azmi
Abu Azmi, state president of the Samajwadi Party claimed that by attending the MNS event, Amitabh Bachchan had affronted north Indians and should apologise to them
It seems Amitabh Bachchan just cannot please everyone. Yesterday, he attended an event organised by the Maharashtra Navnirman Chitrapat Karmachari Sena (MNCKS), the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena’s film union, at the Shanmukhananda Hall.
He spoke and mingled with Raj Thackeray after five years. While one party seems to have been pacified, another has taken offence to Bachchan’s presence at the event. Abu Azmi, the state president of the Samajwadi Party, felt Bachchan had insulted north Indians by being together on the same stage with Thackeray.
‘He must apologise’
He said, “By sharing a stage with Raj Thackeray, who insulted north Indians, Amitji has insulted north Indians who had supported him (when Thackeray had targeted Bachchan in his anti-north Indian campaign). He should now seek forgiveness from north Indians. He should have gone to the event, only if Raj had assured him that his hatred towards all north Indians was now a matter of past. But that didn’t happen.”
Raj Thackeray, at the event, had told media that past feuds were forgotten and even praised the actor (‘Raj Thackeray buries hatchet, praises Big B, December 24). The actor’s wife Jaya Bachchan, is a member of the Samajwadi Party and is a Rajya Sabha MP on an SP seat. But Azmi doesn’t want to talk to her.
“I cannot ask Jayaji (Bachchan) to make Amitji understand, because many a time, we have seen that the wife is with BJP and the husband with Congress,” said the MLA. He asserted that he didn’t want to talk to anyone personally. “Whatever I felt, I’ve spoken to the media. I’m not going to talk to anyone in person about the issue,” he added.
North Indian stand
Both Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan had been under fire from the MNS party president during his anti-north Indian agitation. Azmi mentioned how he too was humiliated by MNS legislators during his swearing-in ceremony in 2009, when he was slapped for taking the oath in Hindi and not in Marathi.
