Frustrated with the traffic on LBS Marg near Kurla, activists and residents write to govt asking it to complete the SCLR flyover project

Frustrated with traffic snarls on LBS Marg in Kurla, activists and residents have written a letter to Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) requesting them to finish the pending flyover work on the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road.

In a Traffic Eastern Advisory committee meeting that took place a few days ago, it was discussed that MSRDC should complete the remaining 5 per cent work on the flyover. RTI Activist and Member of Traffic Eastern Advisory Committee Anil Galgali confirmed this and said, "In the meeting that took place, the members and traffic police officials were of the opinion that MSRDC should complete the pending work as soon as possible and throw it open for vehicular traffic."

In the letter written to MSRDC, the Traffic Eastern Advisory committee members have stated that the government planned the SCLR project to reduce traffic. However, the construction work has just added to traffic jams.

"SCLR is an important road for connecting the Eastern and Western Express Highways. If the LBS Marg flyover becomes functional, commuters will not have to get stuck in frequent traffic jams," said another committee member.

The SCLR is 6.45 km long and is being constructed with World Bank funds under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP). The road was supposed to have been ready by 2008 but the constant delay has resulted in the project cost escalating from Rs 110 crore to Rs 550 crore.
