Anything can happen now, says Korean GP winner Fernando Alonso

Fernando Alonso is mindful of the challenges ahead after taking the lead in the Formula One world championship with a win for Ferrari in yesterday's inaugural Korean Grand Prix.

The 29-year-old Spaniard started the race in third place on the grid and 14 points behind series leader Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing but a crash by the Australian and an engine failure for Webber's teammate Sebastian Vettel saw Alonso cruise to a 14-second win, his fifth victory of the season. Alonso now heads the championship by 11 points from Webber and is leading the title race for the first time since early in the season.

With Grands Prix in Brazil and Abu Dhabi to come, the two-time world champion is adamant that yesterday's result will not change his approach for the remaining races. "One result for one race does not change the picture of the championship," he said.

"There are still four, five (contenders), so we knew before coming here that every race is important to finish.

Being on the podium and being consistent is maybe key to the championship. We know with the new points system anything can happen in one race. If you don't score, you lose 25 points with one of your main opponents"

Alonso is 21 points ahead of McLaren's Lewis Hamilton, in third place, and 25 points ahead of fourth-placed Vettel.
