Each time a new word is added to the Oxford Dictionary, jaws drop around the world.u00a0One such word that generated interest this time was selfie, which refers to a self photo taken from your smartphone or a webcam for social networking. The Pope posed for one too, need we say more? We asked two of our favourite selfie celebs -- singer Anushka Manchanda and actor Gul Panag (a self-confessed selfie addict) -- to share tips on taking great selfies.

Why do I take a selfie?
A selfie is to be real and spontaneous. So when I want to convey my mood, or haven’t tweeted for really long, I make up for it with a selfie.

Tips for a million-likes selfie
I like using the application echofon for added filters and posting selfies on Twitter. Using a timer makes taking a selfie a lot easier as you can make up your mind about the face you plan to put up.

One shouldn’t try and airbrush your selfies, the ones I put up are without warpaint. I could put up a Subi Samuel-shot picture but then I might as well have someone tweeting in my name to. I like genuine selfies, so let it be candid.

Why do I take a selfie?
If I want to take a picture of something or someplace I like and I want to be in it, or I’ve tried something new with my hair or my makeup, or a bunch of friends want to get into one photo, it calls for a selfie. So the background needs to be good, I need to be looking good, or to take a group selfie, your arms need to be really long!
How to take a fashion selfie?
If it’s your outfit, you don’t need your face in the picture. Point your phone camera down so you get what you’re wearing neck down or you can stand and do it. Taking a picture of your reflection in a mirror works too, as long as you don’t use a flash. I take a couple and pick the best.
No-Nos
You look pretty much the same everyday. Unless there are different backgrounds, it’s boring to look at duck-faced, vain selfies. Unless you’re gorgeous.
