Wanawadi police arrested two nursing assistants posted at theArmy Nursing Corps on Tuesday after they allegedly beat up two police constables on patrol duty in Wanawadi Bazaar area at 8.35pm on Monday.

The military jawans were identified as Yogesh Motiram Mane (32), and Dheeraj Shankarlal Prasad (38), both residents of Vikram Batra Complex in Defence Colony.

Police constable Sachin Bhiku Gadhve (27), posted at the Wanawadi police station, filed the complaint against the military jawans. They were produced in the Cantonment court and were released on bail after they were remanded in magistrate custody.

According to the complaint, Gadhve and his associate police constable Bhame were on patrolling duty when they saw a car parked on the Army Public School road. The cops asked the driver to move his vehicle from the spot.

But, after the car went a little ahead, Mane and Prasad walked back and questioned the policemen as to why were they patrolling in a military area. The military jawans then started beating up the policemen and also snatched the walkie-talkie set and carbine from Gadhve’s possession.

Meanwhile, another civilian, who was passing from the area, witnessed the incident and informed the police control room. Immediately, a team of senior police officials arrived at the spot and rescued Gadhve and Bhame.

Mane and Prasad were taken into custody by the team of Wanawadi police and booked for obstructing government officials under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.u00a0
