Shimla: Around 80,000 out of 97,887 cases, identified by various courts in Himachal Pradesh, have been settled by the National Lok Adalat in one day in the state.


A total number of 79,309 cases of the 97,887 cases, identified by different courts across the state, was amicably settled on December 6, a High Court statement said here today.


The disposal of cases was 81.02 per cent and it brought the pendency in subordinate courts by 27.18 per cent, it said.


Compensation amounting about Rs 6.54 crore was awarded in motor accident claims while an amount of Rs 4.61 crore was recovered in pre-litigation matters such as recovery of bank loan cases and cases under Negotiable Instruments Act, it said.

A total of 16,416 cases of 40,497 cases were also settledin the National Lok Adalat held on November 23 last year, three days before Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir took charge as the Acting Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, the statement said.

Since then he made an endeavour to work at all levels to make this National Lok Adalat a grand success by involving the State Legal Services Authority, High Court Legal Services Committee, District Legal Services Authorities and Sub-Divisional Legal Services Authorities in the state and disposal is phenomenal and unprecedented, it added.

In the state High Court, 42 cases out of 111 cases placed before National Lok Adalat were settled while a record number of 17,726 and 17,208 were settled under Mandi and Kullu session division, followed by 12,558 cases in Shimla, 8,565 in Solan, 7,086 in Hamirpur, 5,027 in Sirmaur, 3,512 in Kangra and 2,054 in Bilaspur.
