Ishadur Haffizur Rehman, the so-called 'police doctor', who was apprehended by the Byculla police for illegal use of a red beacon on his car, is a quack, revealed police investigation. According to an investigating officer, the MBBS degree submitted by the accused, on the basis of which he has been practicing for the past six years is a fake.

During interrogation, Rehman, a resident of Agripada, had initially informed the cops that he was a doctor, but could not produce documents to ascertain his credentials as a doctor. Later, he somehow managed to provide the cops with an MBBS degree, and papers proving that he was operating a clinic at Mazgaon.

"He showed us certificates of him being a doctor and stated that he had completed his degree from Pune's Armed Forces Medical College," said a police officer from Byculla police station. After the cops sent Rehman's documents for verification to the Mumbai medical board and the Armed Forces Medical College, both the institutions confirmed that the degree had been forged.

Rehman has now been booked for cheating and forgery. He was produced before the Mazgaon Metropolitan Magistrate Court and has been remanded to police custody till December 20.

Kishore Jadhav, DCP, Zone III, said, "After Rehman's arrest, his wife Wahida had informed us that he was being treated by Dr Yusuf Machiswala for mental disorders at JJ Hospital. We are now verifying Wahida's documents, as the husband-wife duo was operating the clinic together. Even her credentials as a doctor will be verified and if found guilty of shielding her husband, Wahida will also be booked under relevant sections."

Besides, the ATS and the Crime Branch had also interrogated Rehman after pictures of important locations in the city were found on his cellphone. However, he was given a clean chit, as the security agencies found nothing suspicious about the pictures.

The case
The Byculla police had arrested Rehman on December 6, after discovering that he was illegally using a red beacon on his Honda City and logos of Maharashtra police on the vehicle's windshields. Besides, the cops had also recovered 14 SIM cards, an unlicensed revolver, four live cartridges and a walkie-talkie set from his car.
