Freshly crowned Asian footballer of the year Nassir Al Shamrani has been handed an eight-match ban for spitting at an opponent during the second leg of last month’s Champions League final

Riyadh: Freshly crowned Asian footballer of the year Nassir Al Shamrani has been handed an eight-match ban for spitting at an opponent during the second leg of last month’s Champions League final.

Video footage showed him spitting at Western Sydney Wanderers’ Matthew Spiranovic after the Australian club’s 1-0 Champion’s League final win on November 1 in Riyadh.

The Asian Football Confederation said the ban will be served in future club competition, warning that transgressions will be dealt with more severely.
