Ashok Mandre, Zonal Election officer, had kept the two EVM machines with him so that it can be replaced if any of the machines at the polling booth stops functioning. However, Mandre was caught by his society members on his gate with two EVM machines at 12.30 am.

Local police station was informed by the society and after investigation, EVM machines were taken back.

According to the Electoral Registration Officer, Dadasaheb Datkar of 133 Vasai constituencies, "The Zonal Officer was on election duty for 48 hours and had kept the machines in his house for its safety." However, the ERO also confirmed that the machine was not mishandled and the Zonal Officer's intention was not wrong.
