Attend a farmers' market in Andheri this Sunday
Pick fresh veggies, sip kombucha and learn to make terrarium plants at a farmers' market
This Sunday, if you drop by The Little House, a quaint bungalow in Andheri, you'll come across a range of herbs and vegetables, including winter favourites like fresh turmeric, rosemary and thyme. Sourced from farmers of Nashik, Pune and Mumbai, this fresh produce will be part of Versova Farmers' Market, an initiative by social enterprise Better Foods.
"The idea is to offer fresh, pesticide-free produce, and ensure that small and marginal farmers of Maharashtra get recognised," says co-founder Abhinav Upadhyay, who launched the hyper-local weekend markets in the suburbs of Versova and Powai recently, after the success of those in Mahalaxmi and Navi Mumbai. The farm-fresh produce will share space with stalls offering organic items. These include Gouri Gupta's preservative-free energy bars made of date, chia seeds and palm jaggery; coffee beans from Chikmaglur and Tamil Nadu estates sourced by a micro roaster; breakfast dishes featuring artisanal feta and brie whipped up by Dhvani Desai; and Shailaja Sharma's probiotic home-brewed kombucha.
Learn to make pot terrarium
You can also tuck into gluten-free portobello mushroom and Asian-style chicken crepes, munch on beetroot and spinach crisps or pick loaves of jowar bread with cashew or almond butters. If you're planning to bake sourdough at home, buy a terracotta baking container from an artisanal earthen cookware venture. Also learn to make seasonal salads from Vinita Contractor, and pot terrarium plants.
