Australia debut was the best news I ever received: Ashton Agar
Ashton Agar says finding out he would be making his Test debut for Australia in the first Ashes Test was "the best news I've ever received".
Left-arm spinner Agar was a shock inclusion in the Australia XI on Wednesday at Trent Bridge, completing a remarkable rise through the ranks by usurping Nathan Lyon in the side.
The nineteen-year-old number 11 Ashton Agar played one of the great Ashes innings on debut yesterday with a remarkable 98 from 101 balls.
Speaking after capping his meteoric rise by becoming Australia’s 434th Test player, he said: “I was rapt, over the moon.
“Probably the best news I’ve ever received in my life.”
