Nigerian Yakubu Adesokan managed a world record lift of 180kg to win gold ahead of compatriot Vladimir Balynetc who managed to lift 170kg. Basha suffers from poliomyelitis, which he contracted when he was just one year old.

In shooting, India’s sole participant Naresh Sharma failed to qualify for the finals of the 10m air rifle standing event yesterday.

The 40-year-old Sharma managed to shoot only 571 points in the qualifying round finishing 24th out of 29.

All is not over for Sharma, who is participating in his fifth paralympics, as he will also take part in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions SH1 and mixed 50m rifle prone SH1.
