Reacting strongly to the Lodha Committee report, based on which the Supreme Court (SC) yesterday directed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to furnish an explanation regarding their reported non-compliance of the apex court directions on or before October 6, a top BCCI official, on condition of anonymity, said the committee is behaving like a weapon of mass destruction that is out to destroy the top brass from the Indian cricket board.

The SC yesterday told BCCI that it would make the cricket body "fall in line" if it did not abide by the court orders. "If BCCI thinks that they are the law, then they are wrong. They have to comply with the directions of the court," a bench headed by Chief Justice TS Thakur said.

"You (BCCI) are behaving like Lords. Fall in line otherwise we will make you do it. BCCI is bringing the system to disrepute by not following the directions," the bench added. In addition to the removal of the board's top brass, the Committee also sought the replacement of cricket administrators.

"The Lodha Committee is behaving like a weapon of mass destruction. They just want to destroy us (the top brass of BCCI). They want to see that we are completely out of the equation," said the BCCI official, adding: "Some of the recommendations are highly debatable and some are downright ridiculous, but they don't want to listen. They just want us out."

Lamenting at the high handedness of the Lodha panel the official said, "Every matter can be solved through a dialogue or a discussion but they are adamant and they don't want to listen. Is this how democracy works? No, but who will tell them?"
