Beautify the powerful, and get your dream job?

Dr Balaganadhra Tilak took VRS as medical Superintendent of Victoria Hospital recently and joined Sanjay Gandhi Trauma and Rehabilitation Centre as director. his new posting is believed to be a reward for performing a facelift and hair transplant on former Health Minister Sriramulu

the not the reason why he is director of Sanjay Gandhi Hospital.

Now however, his appointment as director of Sanjay Gandhi Accident and Trauma Rehabilitation Centre has raised hackles since he was due for retirement in February next year, but went ahead and accepted appointment to the post by then health minister B Sriramalu.

The questions arising are why Tilak was offered the post after he chose to retire and also, why was no in-service doctor considered for the same. Thanks to his expertise as a plastic surgeon specialising in cosmetic surgery, Tilak was reportedly rewarded with the appointment for doing a good job on Sriramalu earlier this year.
Tilak took VRS from Victoria Hospital in a bid to avoid political pressure to accommodate tainted politicians evading jail terms and Sriramulu had appointed him as the director of Sanjay Gandhi Hospital just before ceasing to be health minister - owing to his indictment in the Lokayukta report on illegal mining in August.

The medical fraternity seems to be aware of the fact that he retired and question the reason behind the developments. "There are several eligible doctors for the post and it is surprising that they have been ignored and Tilak is taking over, post-retirement," said a doctor at the Victoria Hospital.

Tilak held the position of medical superintendent of the Victoria Hospital as an additional charge, and he took VRS from the later post the day Yeddyurappa, an accused in judicial custody in a land scam, was moved from Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology to Victoria Hospital on October 17.

He had come under the court's scanner, when former minister Harathalu Halappa, accused of raping his friend's wife, took shelter in the Victoria Hospital on health grounds after he was remanded to judicial custody in relation to the case.

Tilak was on the verge of attracting contempt of court charges for Halappa's unjustified hospital stay and again had to face heat in court in the case of former minister Katta Subramanya Naidu, an accused in a land scam, being shifted from jail to Victoria Hospital on health grounds in July. Finally, he found a way out and applied for VRS when Yeddyurappa moved to the hospital earlier this month.

Job well done
"He has relinquished his office in the Victoria Hospital, but has got rehabilitation in the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital. He has to thank Sriramulu because he did not leave him in lurch after getting good services from him," said a senior doctor in the Victoria Hospital.

Tilak is said to have conducted a procedure using Botox on Sriramulu's face to get rid of wrinkles, apart from also doing a hair transplant in Mumbai earlier this year under the supervision of Dr Ashok Gupta of Bombay Hospital.

While confirming this, a doctor in the Bombay Hospital said Sriramulu was quite happy with the services.
Sriramulu, a supporter of the Reddy brothers from Bellary, is known for his flamboyance and his fascination for good life. While he apes Telugu film star Chiranjeevi, he uses mineral water even for bathing. Also, he is apparently thrilled with his improved looks, as the face is brighter than earlier and hair loss is no longer a concern.

While declining to divulge details of the treatment performed on Sriramulu, Tilak said being a doctor, it is unethical to divulge the case history of a patient. "I might have done service as a doctor, but I can't talk about it to the media.

I am happy if Sriramulu is satisfied," he said, while admitting that he took charge as the director of Sanjay Gandhi Accident and Trauma Centre during his Sriramulu's tenure as health minister. Sriramulu however, was tactful when asked to comment on Tilak's appointment.

"It is true that Tilak has done cosmetic surgery on me, but that is the not the reason why he is the director of Sanjay Gandhi Hospital. As an expert in plastic surgery, his services are needed there and therefore, the government appointed him to the post. It is not favour to him, but a favour to the hospital."
