The police who obtained first information report from passers-by said that Manoj was seen being chased by two bike-borne persons, who confronted him at Udayabhanu Kala Sangha play ground.
When Manoj raised an alarm for help, the duo rained blows and punched him mercilessly before speeding away from the spot.
Onlookers rushed Manoj, who was seriously injured, to a nearby hospital but the doctor declared him dead on arrival.
The police suspect that the attackers were under the influence of drugs and may have attacked Manoj because of a grudge.
"We are investigating the case to track down the bikers for questioning," a police officer said.
