The BJP Sunday appointed party general secretary Amit Shah, considered close to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, as incharge of electorally crucuial Uttar Pradesh.
The announcement of incharge of states along with convenors and incharges of various fronts was made Sunday.
Party president Rajnath Singh also appointed party leader Bandaru Dattatreya, who hails from Andhra Pradesh, as a vice-president.

Shah's appointment as incharge of UP, which sends 80 MPs to Lok Sabha, has increased the buzz over Modi's rise in the BJP and his possible projection as prime ministerial candidate.
A former Gujarat minister, Shah had got a major breather in April as the Supreme Court quashed the FIR filed against him by the CBI in the Tulsiram Prajapati staged shootout case and said that the charge sheet filed in pursuance to this FIR would be treated as a supplementary charge sheet in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh staged shootout case, which was being tried in Mumbai.
Party leader Ananth Kumar was made in charge of Madhya Pradesh which will go for assembly elections later this year.
Party MP JP Nadda was made in charge of Chhattisgarh and Kaptan Singh of Rajasthan - two other states which will go for assembly polls later this year.
Party general secretary Varun Gandhi will be in charge of West Bengal.
Rajiv Pratap Rudy was appointed in-charge of Maharashtra.
Party MP Smiriti Irani will be the in charge of Goa. Party MP Dharmendra Pradhan was made in charge of Bihar.
Former MP SS Ahluwalia will be in charge of Assam, while former Himachal Pradesh chief minister Shanta Kumar was given the charge of Punjab and O.P. Mathur of Gujarat.
Party leader Balbir Punj was appointed as in charge of party's affairs in Himachal Pradesh and Thawar Chand Gehlot of Karnataka.
