Sensing an opportunity to take a dig at Congress for misuse of power, a local BJP leader filed a complaint with the municipal administration and police on July 21 against the erring corporator. Kamlesh Yadav, vice-president of the north Mumbai BJP, in his complaint has challenged the use of the ward council letterhead by Geeta. Geeta was elected as chairman for the R-South ward council chairman for the 2013-14 period.

"Geeta Yadav has written a letter to SRA pertaining to a project in Kandivli. I have no issue with the Congress leader complaining against any of the projects. But, my objection is about her use of the ward council chairman letterhead, which she is not entitled to," the BJP leader said.

In May, Geeta had dashed a note to the SRA on the ward council letterhead, urging the housing authority not to issue Annexure-2 and LOI to a developer in Kandivli until a boundary demarcation issue was sorted out. mid-day is in possession of the letter, addressed to the SRA, as well as the BJP letter to the police.

Geeta said, “The letterhead clearly mentions ‘former’. I have prefixed Ex before my title as chairman of the ward council. Most public representatives use their letterheads by writing 'ex' before the title they had held previously. I don’t see anything wrong in this.”

Political expert are of the opinion that Yadav’s move might come as a setback to city Congress president Sanjay Nirupam, who has been taking on Shiv Sena-BJP for their misrule in the BMC for over two decades.

Assistant municipal commissioner (ward officer) was not available for comment.

Police confirmed that they had received a letter from the BJP against the corporator. “We are verifying the complaint. But no case has been registered yet,” an official said.
