Offer reward of Rs 100 to anyone who helps them spot cameras, warn state government of agitation if it fails to act in the next 10 days
It appears that government’s inaction in installing CCTV cameras in the city might lead to an uproar during the upcoming winter session of the State Assembly in Nagpur. Three BJP-Shiv Sena MLAs from the city took to the streets on JM Road with binoculars to spot supposedly installed CCTV cameras yesterday afternoon.
One of the MLAs even went ahead and announced a cash prize of Rs 100 to whoever helps them spot a camera. Members of the lower assembly said despite making generous contribution from their own funds, the government had failed to fulfil its promise of installing CCTV cameras.

The camera hunt that commenced at Bal Gandharva Rang Mandir ended at Modern College, but not before passing through Garware Bridge and FC Road. Four months after three low intensity blasts took place on JM Road on August 1, BJP MLA Girish Bapat organised a rally to criticise government’s inaction in installing CCTV cameras at strategic locations in the city. It was Bapat who announced the Rs 100 reward for those helping him spot a CCTV camera in the area.
He termed the move as a beginning of an agitation against the government at the upcoming assembly session if no concrete measures were implemented in the next 10 days. On asked how efficient this method could prove to guarantee safety to citizens, Bapat said, “Providing security is responsibility of the authorities and this is just a step forward. Also, the government should train residents to be more aware and observant while travelling in the city. These CCTV cameras help to investigate not only the terrorist acts, but other criminal activities and traffic offences.”
Commenting on the appalling response given by the citizens to the recent terror-related mock drills on FC Road, Bapat said citizens should exhibit more responsibility towards their own safety.
Sena MLA Chandrakant Mokate, who was a part of the event along with BJP MLA Madhuri Misal, criticised the government. “After the serial blasts in August, we have contributed around Rs15 lakh to Rs 16 lakh each for installation of CCTV cameras, but they are yet to be installed,” he said Misal seconded Bapat’s opinion of holding a protest rally if the state failed to take action in the next 10 days.u00a0
