The fire brigade rushed eight fire tenders, but could not control the flames for nearly three hours after the blaze was reported at 5.30 pm.

Meanwhile, scores of families from nearby buildings and neighbouring bungalows pitched in to help in the fire control operations. A N Shinde, deputy chief fire officer, Marol said, "The fire broke at the second floor of the Anand bungalow. It took nearly two and half-hours for us to get control over the fire. The cause of the fire needs to be investigated. Presently cooling operation is on."

Lalit Modi was seen supervising the fire dozing operation in a calm and composed manner. He wasn't present at home when the fire broke. He told us that he was leaving for Baroda when he came to know about the fire and returned. The second floor of the bungalow, which comprised his office and one bedroom, has been totally engulfed by the fire. All the office records, laptop etc were destroyed. No one was injured as they had come out of the bungalow on time.
