Following the attack on engineers by a local Shiv Sena shakha pramukh, BMC staff and officers went on strike on Thursday morning.

According to civic officials, local Sunil Jadhav and his aide Shashikant Lad had allegedly beaten up two engineers – sub-engineer Dinesh Bhosale and assistant engineer Rajesh Yadav – of H-west ward.

A large number of BMC staffers took part in the protest. Assistant engineer Yadav said, "On July 28, BMC had demolished a religious structure at Ambedkar Road, where some articles kept in the temple were seized. Later, the temple trustee and Jadhav came to the ward office and asked for the articles. When our engineers asked them to pay as per rules, they became violent and attacked the staff."
